Dr. Jon Linford, Baritone
Dr. Linford has performed numerous operatic and oratorio roles, including Figaro in The Barber of Seville and John Proctor in The Crucible. He has sung the title roles in Rigoletto and Don Giovanni and the baritone solos in Bach’s B Minor Mass, St. Matthew Passion, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and St. Paul, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Handel’s Messiah, Brahms’ Requiem, and Haydn’s Creation. Dr. Linford is also in demand as a recitalist and has performed in Las Cruses, El Paso, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Vienna, Austria and Moscow, Russia.
Laurel James, Soprano
Ms. James made her stage debut singing the role of Gretel in the Utah Opera production of Hansel and Gretel. Other Utah Opera appearances include Fire and the Princess in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortileges, Flora in Britten’s Turn of the Screw, and Madame Goldentrill and Miss Silverpeal in Mozart’s The Impresario. Other appearances include Amore in Gluck’s Orpheo ed Euridice, the Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel, Monica in The Medium, and Laetitia in The Old Maid and the Thief, Eve in William Call’s First Cast a Stone!, Adele in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, and the soloist in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
George Dyer, Tenor
George Dyer made his operatic debut with New York City Opera in 1996 singing the role of Ralph Rackstraw in HMS Pinafore. He has also performed leading roles with Utah Opera, Edmonton Opera, Harrisburg Opera, Piedmont Opera, Opera Carolina, and the Chicago Humanities Festival. This year he is singing with Kansas City Lyric Opera, Harrisburg Opera, and Opera Columbus, In October 2000 his debut CD album Wondrous Love was released under the auspices of Deseret Book. Mr. Dyer has also been a soloist on national broadcasts with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Ballet West.
Paula Fawler, Mezzo
Ms. Fowler is Utah Opera’s Director of Education and Community Outreach. In addition, she taught English and Humanities and West High School for ten years. She was awareded first place in both advanced divisions of the annual NATS competition. She has sung with the Utah Opera Chorus for seven years, and performed in Utah Opera school shows for three years. She appeared as Kate Pinkerton in Utah Opera’s production of Madama Butterfly and as the Angel in The Burning Fiery Furnace. Recent stage appearances include Sonheim’s Side by Side by Sondheim and as Lilian in William Call’s First Cast a Stone!
Dr. Paul Dorgan, Accompanist
Dr. Dorgan has performed as both soloist and accompanist on tour throughout Ireland, and has appeared on Irish radio and television. He has accompanied singers in recitals in London, Paris Toronto, at the Puccini Festival in Viareggio, and throughout the United States. In Salt Lake City he has frequently performed as concerto soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist, appearing many times on the Temple Square Recital Series, and with Nova Chamber Music Series. He was engaged by the Irish National Opera, the Cincinnati Opera, the Virginia Opera, the Utah Opera, L’Opéra du Montréal, Opera Columbus, and Opera Memphis.
